Located on a hilltop nearby the bustling city of Volterra, the Villa Volterra offers its lucky guests a fantastic view over the rolling hills of the adjacent countryside as it wends its way to the sea. The majestic structure was commissioned in the 17th century by Jacopo Inghirami, an admiral in the Tuscan navy, and designed by the architect Gherardo Silvani.
The property’s current owner, a well-known film producer, heard about it from his friend, director Luchino Visconti, who happened upon the remarkable spot in 1964 while touring with Vaghe Stelle dell’Orsa. Since then, it has rediscovered its vocation as a center of Italian art and culture, playing host to many a famous name in the Italian and international movie business. While still retaining its antique, historic charm, the estate’s interior has been fully transformed to include some decidedly modern luxuries, such as a roulette room, TV room with satellite and DVD, a fully equipped movie theater, sauna and billiard room. In total, Villa Volterra’s sumptuous interior can comfortable accommodate thirty seven overnight, and two neighboring structures, La Scuola and Il Granaio, boast three suites, one junior suite and twelve bedrooms.
The villa is surrounded by a magnificent garden, dotted with centuries-old trees and extending out over seven and a half acres. Also available for outdoor enjoyment are the swimming pool and furnished patio, pool bar and spacious barbecue area. Couples wishing to combine their wedding with a relaxing holiday in a charming, authentic Tuscan setting will be delighted with the distinctive Villa Volterra.
