Villa San Giovanni Florence

Description

Villa San Giovanni belongs to the Buondelmonte family, around the XI century. The building was a fortified farm. The actual architectural structure was created in the XIV century,built over "pietra forte" blocks, in the middle of the hill (from which the name, "mezzo-monte" middle-mountain), with a typical renaissance square design, with a central courtyard. In first years of the XIV century, the villa was bought by the Barduccio Ottavanti family. Lorenzo de Medici "the Magnificent" bought it in 1480, and sold it two years later to Mr. Bernardo del Nero. Later on, the family became a Ridolfi's and then a Panciatichi's estate. The Prince and future Cardinal Giovan Carlo de Medici (son of Cosimo II and of Maria Maddalena of Austria), brother to the future Grand Duke Ferdinando II, got the house in 1629, when he was just 19 years old. Thanks to the young prince, we have today in this stunning villa frescoes, decorations, some parts of the building and the elegant italian gardens who was helped, in the job, by his "chamber assistant", Marquis Filippo Niccolini.
